Simple System Configuration (Multicasting)

H.264 Streaming VIDEO - Simple Configuration

A Simple Streaming Video System configuration can be set up with the following Hardware & Demo Software:

Hardware:

Web Cameras
H.264 Streaming Server
Client PCs

Demo Software:

DSP Research H.264 Simple Streaming Server
DSP Research H.264 Demo Client
and/or
DSP Research Windows Media Player Plug-in

How the system works:

  1. The web cameras are connected to the DS-400x board and compresses the recorded video data into H.264 format in real time. A maximum of 4 cameras can be connected to each DS-4004HI (V1304) or DS-4004HCI (V640x) board. A maximum of 8 cameras can be connected to each DS-4008HCI board.
  2. The boards are installed in the 'H.264 Streaming Server'. The 'H.264 Streaming Server' is nothing more than a regular PC, with a large number of PCI slots, that has been dimensioned to cope with the power and cooling considerations that might arise. 'H.264 Simple Streaming Server' software runs on the machine and waits for the clients to connect over the internet. The 'DSP Research H.264 Simple Streaming Server' software supports this functionality already today, but you are of course free to  implement your own 'Streaming Server' to better suit your needs using the Net SDK.
  3. The 'Client PC' connects to the 'H.264 Streaming Server' with the 'Real Time Streaming Protocol' (Real://IP address/channel/port) over the network (LAN/WAN/Internet). The Clients connect with either the 'DSP Research Windows Media Player Plug-in' or the 'DSP Research H.264 Client' software or you can develop your own client application using the Net SDK. Microsoft's Windows Media Player 8.0, or higher, must be installed on the client machine if the clients connect with the 'DSP Research Windows Media Player Plug-in'.

Basic System Configuration (Multicasting)

H.264 Streaming VIDEO - Basic Configuration

A Basic Streaming Video System configuration can be set up with the following Hardware & Demo Software:

Hardware:

Web Cameras
H.264 Streaming Servers
Client PCs
Management PCs

Demo Software:

DSP Research H.264 Demo Client
and/or
DSP Research Windows Media Player Plug-in

And the following Software can be modified to support a Basic System Configuration:

DSP Research H.264 Streaming Server

How the system works:

  1. The web cameras are connected to the DS-400x board and compresses the recorded video data into H.264 format in real time. A maximum of 4 cameras can be connected to each DS-4004HI ( V1304) or DS-4004HCI (V640x) board.
'H.264 Streaming Server' software runs on the machine and waits for the clients to connect over the internet. The 'DSP Research H.264 Streaming Server' demo software supports this functionality, but you can of course implement your own 'Streaming Server' to better suit your needs using the Net SDK.
  3. The 'Client PC' connects to the 'H.264 Streaming Server' with the 'Real Time Streaming Protocol' (Real://IP address/channel/port) over the internet. The Clients connect with either the 'DSP Research Windows Media Player Plug-in' or the 'DSP Research H.264 Client' software or you can develop your own client application using the Net SDK. Note that Microsoft's Windows Media Player 8.0, or higher, must be installed on the client machine if you chose to go with the 'DSP Research Windows Media Player Plug-in'.
  4. The 'H.264 Streaming Server' application allows for all 'H.264 Streaming Servers' to be controlled remotely by one or more 'Management PCs', so that the network operator can manage all 'H.264 Streaming Servers' from one location. The 'DSP Research H.264 Simple Streaming Server' can be very helpful, and provides with an excellent example program to start from when developing this application using the Net SDK.

Advanced System Configuration (Dedicated Connection)

H.264 Streaming VIDEO - Advanced Configuration

An Advanced Streaming Video System Configuration system can be set up with the following Hardware:

Web Cameras
H.264 Streaming Servers
Client PCs
Management PCs

And the following Software can be modified to support an Advanced System Configuration:

DSP Research H.264 Simple Streaming Server
DSP Research H.264 Demo Client

The Advanced Streaming System Configuration works in the same manner as the Basic Configuration with the following exception:

  1. The Client PCs connect with username and password to the 'H.264 Streaming Server' and receives  exclusive use (dedicated connection) to one of the 'H.264 Streaming Server' Video channels.
The 'DSP Research H.264 Demo Client' does not implement this functionality today, but can be very helpful and serve as a base program when developing this software with the Net SDK.
